Sync calendar/notes/contacts
(1/1)
sverdlov:
Is there *any* way even if it requires scripting etc to sync calendar & contacts with say iphone, or google contacts & calendar, or outlook?
max:
There is no known way to do this bidirectionally. You can basically subscribe to things with a number of drawbacks. This at least gives you some read access, but it's far from perfect.
The Strategy is to sync as much as possible into Thunderbird / Lightning, then Sync Lightning with my windows mobile phone via Birdiesync. (If you use Outlook instead, then obviously doesn't need Birdiesync to work, it does it with activesync)
CALENDARS
* sync all calendars you need into Lightning (outlook should be similar) via iCal (red icon in the top-right of any calendar)
* This way i can also integrate other public calendars from Google Cal, Basecamp, in-House servers,...
TASKS
* no solution yet.
CONTACS
* regular CSV dump, then Import into Thunderbird address book.
Totally clumsy manual procedure with lots of room for human error. Hopefully this situation will improve sometime soon.
Murz:
Most of users, I think, will be happy to see at first read-only sync of contacts & calendar.
For implement this, we can use iCal and GroupDAV protocols.
We can place an easy php-script on some address (export.php) that check the auth and generate read-only output with special format (iCal, CalDAV, GroupDAV, SyncML).
With this functionality we already can setup a lot of programs for view and show notifications of calendar events and many mail programs for searching within opengoo contacts.
With iCal we can export (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICalendar):
- Calendar events, Tasks
With CalDAV or GroupDAV we can export (http://www.groupdav.org/):
- Calendar events, Tasks
SyncML:
- Contacts, Calendar, Notes, Tasks
