China poses a threat to the interests of the United Kingdom and the United States, FBI Director Christopher Ray and the head of the British counterintelligence service MI5 Ken McCallum warned, writes Reuters.
According to Ray, the Chinese government is "trying to change the world" and is interfering in the policies of Washington and their allies. In particular, he accused Beijing of interfering in the congressional elections in New York in 2022, because the Chinese side did not want the victory of a candidate who criticized it.
In addition, Ray argues, Beijing is using all possible tools to get Western technology. Commenting on the situation in Taiwan, Ray noted that China may try to "seize it by force," which will lead to "one of the most terrible business failures the world has ever seen."
McCallum, in turn, noted that in MI5, the number of investigations related to China has increased sevenfold since 2018. In addition, over the past year, the UK has shared intelligence with 37 countries so that they can protect themselves from cyber espionage by Beijing.
Nevertheless, the Chinese Embassy in the UK, commenting on the statements of McCallum and Ray, said that the accusations against Beijing by representatives of intelligence agencies are groundless.
