I've got an idea to open a new section of the opengoo website entirely in italian...
I was thinking on a subdomain like it.opengoo.org, i can provide the hosting for that...
Any advice?
-
Hi martino87r,
That is a great idea! But we are thinking of renaming OpenGoo (the name sounds bad for English audience), and also do a heavy update of the site, so it might be better to wait a little.
Thanks!
-
Hola Conrado,
did you already find a new name for OpenGoo? Why does it sound bad for English audience?
German site for OpenGoo: I could provide hosting for the German site like de.opengoo.org.

I think we might have. We are going to do an announcement soon, and we will be introducing a new "brand". :o
This is the reason why "goo" sounds bad (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/goo) in English.

Thanks. I haven't heard about this before.

We realized this a few weeks after announcing the project, but didn't pay much attention to it.
With time, we have perceived many signs that the name might be one of the strongest barriers to some for adopting the system (http://www.linux.com/feature/148751).

It's a nice article at Linux.com.
4. After deploying several Java/JEE enterprise solutions, some .Net, some Delphi, some RoR... I am confident of the choice of PHP5 and MySQL with InnoDB. What are the 'serious' arguments against it?
I'm confident of the choice of PHP5 and MySQL too. In every language you can create bad code. What is the reason of using InnoDB?
Best regards

Here is Marco's accustomed -simple yet powerful and geek- reply for the question (http://forums.opengoo.org/index.php?topic=47.msg162#msg162).

Thanks, I understand.

while I don't mind the name, another reason to change just occurred to me...
the "Goo" part may make folks associate this with something from Google... or that you are intentionally trying to make that association.

This is another very good reason to change the name.

What is the status of the name change? I am a consultant in the US and the name OpenGoo makes it difficult for me to recommend your product.

Hi Eric. Thanks for the feedback.
How does Feng Office (http://www.fengoffice.com/) sound?
-
Well FengOffice sounds a little bit like a Chinese crunchy cake... Maybe with time i should get my mind to absorb this name but overall i don't like it.
From a commercial point of view it will be better some kind of short and effective name, like
woff :-X ;D (web office)
inoffice (everytime in the office ;))
YAWSO ( Yet Another Web Suite Office) the best!!!! :D :D
these are my small suggestions... a little hilarious but effective
-
Well, there's at least nothing objectionable about Feng Office, but I honestly don't know if that's the best name either. Whatever the name, it's excellent work you're doing.

Thanks guys!
