Announcements / OpenGoo 0.9 released
« on: October 07, 2008, 03:09:22 pm »
Another release is out. You can find some ramblings about it at the Goo Blog, and the release notes at Sourceforge.

It still has some known issues, and a few new ones. Your feedback is very important for us to improve it.

With everyone's help we will -hopefully- reach our first stable version very soon.

Español / Bienvenidos hispanoparlantes
« on: September 28, 2008, 09:13:14 pm »

Announcements / OpenGoo 0.8 released
« on: September 02, 2008, 01:04:57 am »
OpenGoo 0.8 is another important step towards the 1.0 release. It fixes several bugs, and adds some new features, such as:

  • Time Tracking: There is now time tracking functionality for the tasks module. It is not finished yet, but it is working.
  • Task priority: Tasks can be assigned a priority
  • Projects Templates: A first approach on task and milestone templates is presented. It will probably mutate a lot. Basically, templates include a set of tasks or milestones with predefined properties set.
  • 'Reply to all' and forwarding features for email were added.
  • Improved system navigation: There are still some issues, but the navigation (closing forms, back button) is getting better.
  • Better support of Safari: It still has some bugs though, your input is welcome!
  • Spanish translation: First Spanish translation (Uruguayan Spanish, if there is such a thing) can be set in config/config.php with ('DEFAULT_LOCALIZATION' = 'es_uy')
  • Tons of bugs fixed (assuming that one bug weighs a ton – Warning: Ignacio might have a copyright on the joke. Left here for community consideration  ;D ).

Definitions / What is a Content Object
« on: July 24, 2008, 04:48:19 pm »
As the team has been referring to Content Objects (CO's) throughout the forum, I felt there might be a need to define what a CO is, since it is a term used internally at the core team, but not a formal nor widespread one, and might be subject to different interpretations.

First draft of a definition
A Content Object refers to a piece of Data, independent of its form, that is treated in a similar manner by the system. It is the 'Abstract Class' for Objects like:

  • Message
  • Contact
  • File (or Document)
  • Task
  • Milestone
  • Event
  • And so on...

More CO's might be specified, as the system specializes support for other kind of data.

Specializations of a CO (e-mail and SMS specialization of the 'Message Class') are also CO's.

The system treats CO's similarly, with functions that allow all CO's to be viewed, usually edited, have permissions, have properties, be linked, be shared, etc.

So this is it. Hope you find it helpful. Contributions are welcome.

Announcements / OpenGoo 0.7 released
« on: July 24, 2008, 04:06:45 pm »
OpenGoo 0.7 introduces great new features

In summary:
  • Dashboard: OpenGoo is all about integration. Now we have gone a step further in that direction by including a unified Dashboard view of your most important information. You can now visualize your latest messages and documents, late and pending milestones and tasks and your activity for the next two weeks, all in a single view.
  • New Interfaces: The tasks and milestones interface was completely redesigned. You can now easily see relationships between tasks, quickly navigate through the task hierarchy, and managing tasks was never easier. You can add, complete, assign or delete tasks without having to leave the main view. The calendar interface was also improved; it has a cleaner and friendlier look.
  • Better usability and design: We are constantly looking for ways to improve the usability and visual design of OpenGoo. The user interface for viewing your Content Objects (messages, documents, tasks, milestones, etc.) has been redesigned, becoming not only prettier, but also much more usable. A Workspace Crumbs widget was added, that lets you see at all moments were you are standing in the workspace hierarchy.
  • More flexibility: Now it's possible to send emails from OpenGoo, which means you can now use OpenGoo not only to organize and classify your email, but also as your every day mail client. Documents and messages can now reside in more than one workspace, making it easier to share information with other users. This features will be extended to all Content Objects for the next release.
  • Stability: Many bugs were reported on OpenGoo.org by the community, and were solved for this release.

Next Steps
We are still working on making OpenGoo a more stable product. There are several bugs to fix and things to improve, and there's a long list of new features to add. OpenGoo is currently beta quality software, so you are not advised to use it on a production environment. However, it is usable, and in fact we ourselves are using it internally, but you should use it at your own risk.

Some features planned for the next release are:
  • Sharing items between different workspaces for all content objects
  • A first approach on reporting
  • Even more stability
  • Small improvements everywhere

This release notes were compiled and so poetically arranged by Acio. If you have the privilege to know Acio personally you wouldn't suspect this artistic nature in his quiet manners. Acio, you don't cease to amaze me!  :D

How to help
Please help OpenGoo by reporting any bugs you find. You can do so at the SourceForge.net tracker for OpenGoo, or here at the forum

Thank you!

Components / Translation interface plugin
« on: July 18, 2008, 02:42:23 pm »
Anyone knows of a cool -well PHP programmed- interface that would enable translation for any user that could be meshed-into OpenGoo? I bet there must be a hundred CMS's with this feature.

There are many volunteers to translate, but editing the text files is discouraging to most.

See this comment, for example.
