Automatic sub tasks
« on: June 27, 2012, 05:06:45 am »
Hello.

I would like to use FengOffice to manage a kind of revolving todolist for tasks needed to be performed daily, weekly and monthly.

Here is an example of the task hierarchy I would like to implement :

- Daily tasks
---> Server 1
------> Check disk space
------> Check processes
------> Check security updates
---> Server 2
------> Check disk space
------> Check processes
------> Check security updates
---> Server 3
------> Check disk space
------> Check processes
------> Check security updates

In this example, the sub tasks are the same for each servers.

I would like to know how can I automatically create these subtasks when adding a server.

Thanks.

Sounds like a template, where you can create a milestone with tasks, and add the object to a template, thus creating the tasks and milestone automatically. However, it might not support subtasks very well (I only played with it for a few minutes).

Exactly, right, dabrowski.

@Tastatur, you should try a combination of two features:
  1. Setting the task as repetitive (you can do this using the full edition of a task)
  2. Creating templates (Templates are a VERY powerful tool)

Dabrowski is right in that it is tricky to get sub-tasks working right on templates. It should be improved, but it is possible.
