SOLVED - Max file size limit
« on: January 07, 2014, 07:46:51 pm »
UGH this is so frustrating! I have looked in the forums. I have tried the wikis. Nothing works! I have modified the php.ini file. I have created the .htaccess file. I have tried placing the .htaccess file both in Fengs root and /var/www/. I have tried duplicating the php.ini files in multiple directories as some have recommended. NOTHING WORKS. I can not get past the 2MB file limit. Please help, and please don't link me to the wiki or another common Google resource because I have tried all of them. Thank you in advance!

I have added the following to .htaccess

php_value post_max_size 10M
php_value upload_max_filesize 10M

I have modified the following in php.ini

max_execution_time = 900
post_max_size = 10M
upload_max_filesize = 10M

Here is the directory structure:

/var/www/fengoffice
                                |----.htaccess
                                |----php.ini
                                |----all other fengoffice directories and files

Hi there!

Welcome to Feng Office Forums.
That is rather odd. If the information at the Wiki does not work (http://www.fengoffice.com/web/wiki/doku.php/installation:server_settings#changing_the_maximum_filesize_upload_limit) it seems like it could be something else in your server settings.
Without logging in to it, it would be hard to explicitly guess though.

Best regards,
Francisco

I dont know what else it could be... Blank Ubuntu 12.04 32bit installation. Did one update and upgrade. Installed all the required packages. Unzipped the fengoffice folder into /var/www. Setup the mysql database (All the steps above by using someones carefully written guide on feng office install), and finally launched the webGUI and finished the install. Nothing weird has been done to the server. I dont understand why everyone seems to have the answer, but none of the answers seem to work?

I have noticed that when I try to upload a file greater than 2MB, it does not give me an error message, it instead says success, but the file name is not displayed in the success message. Just a single quote. Its like there is a code error. Here's an example:

Under 2MB:
Success: File 'Procedure.txt; ' has been added

Over 2MB:
Success: File '' has been added

Whats weird is I just tried to click add file without even specifying a file to upload and it still uploaded nothing and displayed the same message:

Success: File '' has been added

This must be a bug in the new version. Someone goofed up the error reporting when a file upload fails.

This technically doesn't have anything to do with my issue though (I believe), the file upload still succeeds under 2MB and fails over 2MB

So I finally have the solution. I hope everyone else out there who is having trouble with this finds this post. The issue was stupid and indeed related to server configuration, but the Wiki's make it seem like the default configuration will work out of the box if you just modify the files it tells you to.

You need to modify Apache2 as well (DUH, should have thought of this) to allow .htaccess files to override.

On Ubuntu, you need to edit the /etc/apache2/sites-available/default file.

In this file under the /var/www directive you need to change AllowOverride None to AllowOverride All

Glad to know you solved it! :)

Thanks for sharing the info as well.

Adding those lines to the Wiki now for future reference.

Francisco
