Email function makes host quota increase rapidly

I tried using the email function (pop3 gmail) and found that host quota increased quickly. I have only 5-10 new emails everyday but host quota increases 40-50 Mb. I'm sure that due to the email function, used quota increased  rapidly like that. I wonder if this is the popular problem and is there any way to fix it?

I don't know if it is because of the email, but my DB is also very big!! (369.679 MB)
