outgoing email error: Connection to the given MTA failed

Incoming email from gmail and gmx accounts work. Can't email out.  Full error is:

Connection to the given MTA failed. The connection interface said: connection refused.

Im hosted on godaddy linux.  I don't understand what MTA is and have tried numerous smtp / outgoing settings and still can't email out.

Suggestion?

I've done some research and it seems that GoDaddy doesn't play nice with SwiftMailer class used by Opengoo - something about not allowing secure sockets on one of the ports ...

I don't know the tech specifics but I installed OpenGoo on my second host account on Siteground.  So I'll have to use it on SG and not GoDaddy.

I had to do the same with Magento.  GD is good on basic sites but anything else seems to be a hassle with all of their restrictions.
