How to use Parameters in Task Templates?

I am testing how task templates work, but am not really clear on the 'parameters' option. What does it do, and more importantly, how does it work?

can anyone give any simple examples?

The parameters are.. parameters.
If you for instance want to create a template for a task, you might want to use parameters in order to create it with new values when you apply the template in a certain workspace, that way you will, for instance, avoid having all the tasks with the same name
